本書為21世紀(jì)高職高專教材，分3冊。本書內(nèi)容涵蓋基礎(chǔ)英語及中醫(yī)學(xué)專業(yè)英語。第1冊主要內(nèi)容包括人物情景對話及基礎(chǔ)英語閱讀，語法涉及的是詞性及各種時態(tài)；特點是注重基礎(chǔ)英語的讀寫及應(yīng)用。第2冊主要內(nèi)容包括語言文化、社會風(fēng)俗、地理風(fēng)貌、人際關(guān)系等內(nèi)容的短文閱讀，語法涉及詞性、語序、語態(tài)及從句等；特點是注重加強英語的實際應(yīng)用能力。第3冊目的是給同學(xué)們提供提高英語綜合應(yīng)用水平的機會。
本書分為10個單元，均為涉及醫(yī)學(xué)各科知識的文章。內(nèi)容包括保健護理、中醫(yī)基礎(chǔ)知識、中藥知識、針灸推拿知識、醫(yī)藥信息、常見疾病等。
每一單元包括課文a(texta)、課文b(textb)、閱讀技能三部分。課文a與b為精讀材料，內(nèi)容廣泛，語言真實、規(guī)范，并配有相關(guān)練習(xí)。因此，學(xué)習(xí)者在閱讀理解課文時，應(yīng)加強對課文內(nèi)容、課文結(jié)構(gòu)的理解，同時進行詞匯的上下文猜測。課后練習(xí)針對性強，可以加深對原文的理解和記憶。其他實用練習(xí)則加強對本課相關(guān)句型、詞匯和結(jié)構(gòu)的操練和運用。
閱讀技能這一項目側(cè)重各種段落類型，理解語篇中的具體信息，如根據(jù)上下文猜測詞義、理解暗示含義、推理等。每一單元后另配備四篇閱讀訓(xùn)練小短文，供學(xué)生利用所學(xué)的閱讀技巧，培養(yǎng)閱讀技能，提高閱讀速度，增強閱讀理解力。一般來說，每一單元的講解時間約為6學(xué)時。本冊可在第三學(xué)期使用。具體做法參見教師參考書和相關(guān)課件。
